How to buy the best bra for your breast shape

While it’s true what they say - that our bodies are all different - your boobs usually fall into one of eight shapes. Sure, they all have their quirks - hello uneven sizing and inverted nipples - but chances are somebody else (or many somebody else’s) are struggling to find the perfect bra for their bell shaped boobs or a piece that supports their chest in all of its asymmetric glory.

Is there an average breast shape

Not really.  The full, perky breast with a centred nipple comes from modern beauty standards. Big, small, fleshy, dense, slender, muscular, a handful or a cup full, the unique cocktail of chromosomes your parents donated to you ensures there is no such thing as an average breast shape.

If there’s no average breast shape, how do fit and sizing guides work?

Archetype breasts are full and round, with the nipple pointing upwards. Bra brands often model their products on this shape, so when you take your measurements and order your bras, remember - the numbers don’t always tell the whole story. Some boobs don’t suit certain bra styles and look amazing in others, no matter what the centimetres say!

Our guide to the different breast shapes

Your boobs will change shape at least twice in your life - once when or if you give birth, and a second time when menopause arrives. Breastfeeding, birth control, ageing and hormone imbalances can also impact how your boobs show up, changing the way bras feel and how they fit. With this biological factoid stored away, we thought it would be a great idea to cover the various breast shapes in detail, including what they are and which Nala bra suits what, so you’re always covered. Do bras help shape breasts?

Yes! Every breast is different - some may need extra support, while others need a light cuddle, and some need to be drawn together. The key is to find a bra that embraces and rocks your boob shape, instead of forcing it into a piece it doesn’t belong in. Eugh. So uncomfortable. Our bra wizards understand comfort, working hard to design different types of bras to snuggle and support a full rainbow of boobs, no matter how big, small, full, low, high or uneven they are.
Tip: The right bra is the one that moves with you like a second skin. If it hurts, send it back.

Just so we’re clear - there is no such thing as the best breast shape. No matter what anybody says, or which beauty standards rule the day, your boobs are beautiful and awesome exactly as they are.  There are so many things that influence what yours look like - genetics, weight, hormones, pregnancy, menopause and more - so if you find yourself thinking, hey, my boobs have changed, you’re probably right.
